Listing & Claiming your Business with Bing Local
Listing and claiming your business properly with Bing Local is another important step to improving your local search rankings. Bing is 1 of the 3 major local search engines where you will need to list/claim and verify your business. Bing usually drives 14% of your search traffic. Even though Bing does not have the amount of traffic as Google. Having a verified listing with Bing will help improve your Google Places ranking.
In this tutorial you will learn how to:
- See if your business is listed with Bing Local.
- Add and/or claim your listing.
- Update your NAP (name, address, phone).
- Choose proper categories.
- Add other business attributes.
- Verify your listing.
- Claim, verify, & remove duplicate listings.

Select “Continue”
Step 8: Create credentials with TLD email address
Create an account using a top level domain (TLD) email address for the business. If the business domain is sachsfamilydental.com then the email used to create this account should be something like “web@sachsfamilydental.com” for example. This is going to create trust with Bing that this listing was created by someone legitimate within the company. Do not use shadyemail245@yahoo.com for example.
Enter TLD email, password
Enter security question and answer
Enter captcha
Select “Continue”
The Email message sent page will be displayed
Step 9: Validate email account
Go to the inbox of the email account

Preview the way your listing will be displayed. You can return to any section to make changes by selecting the tab that requires modification.
Select “Next”
Step 23: Complete Phone Verification
Complete the verification process. This is accomplished by phone or mail. I recommend the phone verification. Select “Verify” and the automated system will place a call to the company’s phone listed above.
You may also choose to have Bing mail you a pin number. It will arrive in 2-4 weeks on a 5×8 postcard. I do not recommend this option because it can easily be mistaken for junk mail and consequently tossed in the garbage. It may also slow the improvement of your rankings because competitors with verified Bing listings will rank higher and take priority with Bing.
Select “Verify” to initiate the validation call and be prepared to answer an automated call that will be directed to the number listed in the company profile. The automated system will give a pin number that will need to be entered by touch tone when you answer the call.
This is how the pin will be displayed after selecting “Verify”
Step 24: Listing Verified Page
Bam! Your listed and verified.
Step 25: Deleting Duplicate Listings
Stay tuned I will be updating this post with step by step for handling duplicates.
