History and Founding

In 2006, I was Sales & Marketing VP with a start up for a mid sized Foreign Currency Brokerage in a very competitive world market. Currency Traders were scattered all over the world and throughout the US. Traditional advertising was not an option in this market without a multi million dollar budget. The most cost effective marketing medium was the online space with popular search terms/clicks costing $5 - $20 each. Pay Per Click costs would run a couple hundred thousand plus to maintain annually. These factors lead our company to search engine optimization. We registrered hundreds of keyword specific domains, built hundreds of web sites and landing pages, and went to the SEO school of hard knocks.

During the same time my brother was the top Technology Sales Representative for Henry Schein. He often discussed issues that he felt his doctors were experiencing in the dental industry. They had the need of cost effective marketing to recuperate the enormous capital outlay for new technology, namely 3D imagining or dental implant technology. The doctors were skillful in their craft but lacked expertise, time, and budget to communicate and attract a strong new patient flow.

In May of 2009 I was diagnosed with Cancer. I was forced to quit my job and spent the next 18 months enduring extensive chemotherapy and stem cell transplants. Needless to say I had a lot of time on my hands, much of which was spent researching the dental industry and evaluating online opportunities available to dental professionals.

The cost intensive, new dental technology available to dentists lacked a solid marketing plan to attract new patients for those treatments. It became apparent that the vast majority of Dentists were casting a wide net blindly, in other words putting a large portion if not all of their budget into traditional advertising mediums (yellow pages, mailers, etc.) I saw an enormous gap that could be filled. Thus the concept for Milkmen was born. Instead of working for one company as a VP of Marketing I would found a company that could market for a number of dental practices simultaneously. Instead of managing the hundreds of sites and campiagns for one company, I would form a network of non-competing dental professionals and bring enterprise level search marketing tactics and technology to the dental industry. Then, to build a company that would not seek to keep the talent holed up in an office, but out in the trenches with clients, working alongside them day to day.

Thus the Milkmen model began to take shape. Working alongside dentists, as the surrogate marketing department, Milkmen can assist 100’s of dentists who can’t afford or can’t find cost-effective full time marketing help. Many dentists today have innovative technology, service ideas, compelling business models and smart market timing. They simply don’t have the skill or budget to roll together a marketing program that produces results in the way of revenue. We combine marketing resources, spend, and expertise allowing our doctors to compete against the growing trend of dental groups using economies of scale to steal market share from the traditional dental practice.
